Rodney King Announces Engagement To Former Juror At Brutality Trial

September 8, 2010

(ChattahBox U.S. News) – Rodney King, a man who became the center of a race debate in the early 1990’s when he was the subject of a brutal beating by four white police officers, has announced that he will be marrying a woman he met during the trial who served on his jury.

Cynthia Kelley was the only black juror on the panel during the controversial trial that led to a $3.8 million payout to King, who was beaten on tape by police officers during a chase. She was also one of the only jurors who wanted to give him the full settlement.

“During deliberations, the other jurors said, ‘Let’s just award him $100,000, you know he’s just gonna blow it anyway.’ It was a blessing that I was even there, the other jurors didn’t want to give him anything,” she told the NY Post.
The two began dating but broke up, and King went on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew to battle a long time drug addiction. When he finish taping the show he contacted her, and the two began seeing each other once again.
“I don’t know what I would have done without her in my life … I can’t wait to make her my wife,” he was quoted as saying.
The two have not yet set a date.
