Fox News: Human ‘Body Parts’ Map Puts NY Islamic Center on ‘Sacred Ground’ (Video)
September 10, 2010
(ChattahBox US News)—Fox News and the Rupert Murdoch-owned New York Post, have a new odious line of attack against the building of the Park51 Islamic community center in Lower Manhattan. What is it? A map of the locations of human remains and body parts found in New York after the September 11 terrorist attacks that killed 3,000 people. According to Murdoch’s media conglomerate, the entire area where human remains were discovered should be declared “sacred ground.” What sort of enterprises should be allowed in the body part zone? Bars and strip clubs, but no Islamic cultural centers.
This morning’s Islamophobia and smearing of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the co-developer of the Park51 cultural center, was particularly offensive.
The gang at Fox & Friends continued to attack Rauf as a “threat” to America, while showing the body parts map and the location of the proposed cultural center, which they wrongly call a Mosque to deliberately stoke fear. It’s not a Mosque. The proposed Park51 center would be an Islamic-interfaith cultural center, having a pool, restaurant and gymnasium, with one floor devoted to worship.
The Fox & Friends gang began their Park51 hatemongering, by discussing Donald Trump’s offer to buy the Park51 building. The offer was rejected. Trump conditioned the offer on relocating the Islamic cultural five blocks away from Ground Zero.
CARLSON: They are not taking Trump’s money in this thing, because they have no intention of moving this mosque. None.
KILMEADE: A sad map, but a telling map. The recovered body parts and remains of those who lost their lives on 9/11 almost 9 years to the day. The red dots signify DNA at the very least that was recovered from that area. [...]
KILMEADE: As you see, those dots that’s where the remains were found and where does the arrow go? Right to where the Mosque would be.
DOOCEY: The reason we bring this up is because the Imam himself, said look this is not Ground Zero proper, nobody’s body was near that location. [...]
DOOCEY: But in fact, as you can see right here from this, there were body parts found 348 feet… To say it is not sacred ground to the people who lost loved ones—It is sacred ground and we should point out, 1,100 people’s remains still have not to this, day been identified.
Gretchen Carlson then takes up the attack on Imam Rauf, claiming he selected a site close to Ground Zero “on purpose” to incite a negative reaction:
CARLSON: What’s troubling to me in this whole thing– It kind of hit me yesterday when I was on the radio show Brian. I said, I can’t really wrap my head around this whole logic of the thing. It almost seems now like that they intended to incite this sort of reaction from America, so they could come full circle and say what the Imam said the other night, which was woh, woh, woh– if you move it now we’re going to attack you. That statement to me, is the most troubling statement over the last couple of months. And it made me wonder– did they do this on purpose? And I would hate to think that was the case…
Carlson and Fox News continue to widely misinterpret a statement made by Imam Rauf, during an interview on CNN, to falsely claim he threatened to attack America if he were forced to move the Park51 center.
As reported by Media Matters, Rauf’s statements don’t even come close to the wild allegations made by Fox News.
Here is what Rauf Said:
RAUF: “My major concern with moving is that the headline in the Muslim world will be “Islam is under attack in America.” This will strengthen the radicals in the Muslim world, help their recruitment. This will put our people, our soldiers, our troops, our embassies, our citizens under attack in the Muslim world. And we have expanded and given — and fueled terrorism.”
Personal attacks, smears, anti-Muslim hate and hysteria, 9/11 human body parts maps: What disgusting tactic will Fox News come up with next, to portray all Muslims as scary terrorists?
