Gohmert: ‘White Lace and Promises’ and Terror Babies (Video)
September 17, 2010
(ChattahBox Political News)—-Right-wing clownish Congressman from Texas, Louie Gohmert is usually making news for such nonsense, as “terror babies,” “condoms on wild horses” and equating homosexuality with “necrophilia, pedophilia, bestiality and even Nazism.” But last night on the House floor, we saw a softer side of Gohmert; one of broken hearts, “an old-fashioned love song” and “White lace and promises.” Yes, Gohmert celebrated songwriter Paul Williams’ 70th birthday by reading the lyrics of his songs into the congressional record. And you wonder why nothing seems to get done in Washington.
“I want to finish tonight with a tribute. It is a great honor for me to recognize
one of America’s greatest songwriters in our Nation’s history, who turned 70 years of age this week,” said Gohmert.
The wacky Congressman then began to recite the lyrics from various Paul Williams songs, made famous by Karen Carpenter, Helen Reddy and Barbara Streisand.
“White lace and promises. A kiss for luck and we’re on our way. For those of us who have loved, he expressed for us to the one we love that we won’t last a day without you. And that all we needed was just an old-fashioned love song coming down in three-part harmony, one I am sure they wrote for you and me.” [...]
“Paul Williams asked the ongoing question through the voice of Kermit the Frog as to why are there so many songs about rainbows? And what’s on the other side? Well, someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection, because Paul is a lover, a dreamer like me.”
For cripes sakes.
