Sharron Angle: ‘Get Rid of’ Insurance for Autism, Pregnancy (Video)

September 23, 2010

(ChattahBox Political News)—Sharron Angle, the extremist tea party senatorial candidate challenging Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) has once again revealed her heartless extremism. During an appearance before a tea party group, Angle, who once advocated using “Second Amendment remedies” if Republicans don’t regain power in November, lamented to the teapartiers about state laws mandating that health insurers cover certain conditions. What does she want to get rid of, because it costs too much? Coverage for autism and pregnancy. She mocked autism, by using air quotes and went on to reason that hey, she wasn’t having any more babies, so she shouldn’t have to pay for maternity care for others. The mind reels.

The Las Vegas Sun has the story:

“In a video of Angle at a 2009 tea party rally released by the party’s tracker, Angle appears to mock a recently passed Nevada mandate for insurance carriers to cover treatment for autism.”

“Take off the mandates for coverage in the state of Nevada and all over the United States,” she shouts. “But here you know what I’m talking about. You’re paying for things you don’t even need.”

“They just passed the latest one, is everything that they want to throw at us now is covered under ‘autism’,” she said, using exaggerated air quotes to deliver the word ‘autism.’”

Angle went on to mock coverage for pregnancies:

“So that’s a mandate that you have to pay for. How about maternity leave? I’m not gonna have any more babies, but I sure get to pay for it on my insurance. Those are the kinds of things that we want to get rid of.”

Harry Reid responded with a press release condemning Angle’s heartless rhetoric.

“Nevada US Senate candidate Sharron Angle has used some exceedingly crass and callous rhetoric while articulating her extreme and dangerous agenda, but none is as malevolent and compassionless as the newly-unearthed comments of her mocking and scapegoating health coverage for those suffering with autism.”
