Rep. Gohmert: People on Welfare Should Live Off the Land (Video)

September 29, 2010

(ChattahBox Political News)—-The wacky extremist Republican Congressman from Texas, Louie Gohmert, fresh off of his “terror babies” tour, is now turning his mighty intellect towards welfare reform. Gohmert, who also once argued that expanding the Hate Crimes Act would lead to widespread necrophilia, pedophilia and bestiality, is proposing that the federal government thin its welfare rolls by encouraging welfare recipients to live off government land grants, as long as they promise to never, ever accept welfare payments ever again. The line between genius and madness, as the saying goes is really quite thin. Maybe Gohmert is on to something here. And then again, maybe he’s insane.

Gohmert presented his ingenious (insane) welfare reform plan last night on the House floor:

“Gohmert: We have people on welfare and I know there’s some that just don’t wanna work, but there’s some that do. How ’bout if instead of the welfare, we give ‘em an alternative. We’ll give you so many acres that can provide land where you can live off of it, make a living and we’ll give you seed money to start, but you have to sign an agreement that you’ll never accept welfare again. How ’bout that? We got plenty of land.”

Gohmert is no doubt, also supportive of a return to poor houses, debtor prisons and leper colonies.

Walid Zafar of Media Matters compares Gohmert’s living off of the land scheme, to the 40 acres and a mule deal offered to former slaves after the Civil War.

Gohmert should be ashamed to open his mouth to expound on any subject anywhere after the way Anderson Cooper made a fool of him on CNN during a discussion of his “terror babies” BS.
