Right-Wing Blogger: Rutgers Student Gets No Sympathy for ‘Stupid’ Suicide

October 4, 2010

(ChattahBox Political News)—The compassionate conservatives are out in droves today, it seems. The entire nation is shocked and saddened by the cruelty that led to a gay Rutgers University student to take his own life. Tyler Clementi, 18, was videotaped without his knowledge using a live webcam, by his roommate and another student as he engaged in an intimate encounter with a fellow male student. Clementi’s most private moments were broadcast live on the Internet. And unable to deal with the aftermath, when he was not officially out as an openly gay man, he committed suicide. What is the response of Bob Owens, a well-known conservative blogger? He tweeted today, that he has very little sympathy for Clementi, who made a “stupid decision” by ending his own life. Nice.

Bob Owens, who operates the right-wing Confederate Yankee blog, also is a frequent contributor to the Washington Examiner, Pajamas Media and Andrew Brietbart’s BigGovernment blog.

Although many conservatives are rabid homophobes, Owens’ heartlessness towards the tragedy of Tyler Clementi’s death stands out as particularly odious.

“Really sorry that kid committed suicide at Rutgers,” Owens tweeted. But he really wasn’t sorry, not in the least.

Owens asked: “How much sympathy does he deserve for a stupid decision?”

The mind reels.

It is very frustrating that the 2 homophobes are people of color and this is good damage control. True most people have never heard of this guy but I think it would serve us well to highlight his face and google some more right wing bloggers that typed mean stuff we can stymie sympathy for the murderers just because of their skin tone.
