GOPer Pearce: in Birther ‘Fight’ to Prove Obama a ‘Kenyan-Born, Indonesian Muslim’
October 7, 2010
(ChattahBox Political News)— More birther madness this election season. This time, the insane zombie lie that President Obama is an illegal alien, was promoted by Steve Pearce, a Republican candidate for congress from New Mexico. Pearce a former congressman, who is seeking to recapture his seat, assured a constituent at a town meeting that he would be “in the fight,” when and if, lawmakers demanded proof of President Obama’s citizenship. The crazed woman asked Pearce to state his position on the birther issue, if it was proved that Obama is a “Kenyan-born, Indonesian Muslim.” Instead of dismissing the woman’s birther nonsense, Pearce gave it life, saying it was Obama’s “fault” there were questions about his legitimacy, while agreeing there are “significant questions” about the place of the President’s birth. There aren’t. And Pearce is shamelessly pandering to the crazies in his party to get elected.
As reported by Amanda Terkel of Huffington Post, Pearce made his birther conspiracy remarks during a Sept. 30 town meeting in New Mexico.
A woman in the audience wanted to make sure that Pearce would support a congressional action of “subpoenaing” President Obama and “making him show a birth certificate.”
The woman also went on to describe Obama as a member of the Muslim faith. He isn’t.
“Because if he is not eligible, because of everything he signed, every bill he signed, every executive order, his czars, our whole government, everything we’re doing is invalid and unconstitutional and illegal,” she said “I just want to know what is your position on Barack Obama if he is in fact a Kenyan-born, Indonesian Muslim. What is your position on all of this?”
Pearce was certainly no profile in courage here. And worse, he managed to spew some additional lies and conspiracy theories about President Obama, by falsely claiming when Obama “traveled to Pakistan it was not legal to go there with a U.S. passport.”
Next, Pearce falsely claimed the U.S. Supreme Court is investigating Obama’s birth status. It isn’t.
“I’m content to let the courts handle that and it’s my understanding the Supreme Court is actually looking at this question because I think it’s an important question. But I absolutely believe that Barack Obama raises the most significant questions himself,” said Pearce.
And when asked to pledge his support for the birther conspiracy theory “if the Senate is involved,” Pearce responded “I don’t mind being in the fight…”
Pearce responded to the Huffington Post article, blaming the messenger, saying the blog is “attempting to make an issue where none exists,” blaming the flap on his opponent’s “liberal allies.”
“Harry Teague’s liberal allies at The Huffington Post are attempting to make an issue where none exists,” Pearce said. “Obama’s citizenship is not an issue in this race. He’s the duly elected President and I respect that. This election is going to be determined by who is creating jobs, not blog stories. I will create jobs and cut spending. Teague won’t.”
Notice Pearce, stopped short of condemning the birther falsehood. If he truly respects President Obama as he says he does, then Pearce wouldn’t be encouraging his insane birther constituents.
