Birther Candidate: Rush Limbaugh Should Verify Obama’s Birth Certificate
October 13, 2010
(ChattahBox Political News)—Meet Tim Walberg, a former congressman and now the Republican nominee from Michigan’s seventh congressional district. Walberg is your typical GOP traditional values candidate, who supports the privatizing of “Socialist” Social Security. But he is also a shameless conspiratorial birther. The racist conspiracy theory that President Obama was not born in the United States has been thoroughly debunked. And he has made his birth certificate public. But that’s not enough for kooky birthers who have gone off the deep end since the election of an African American named Barack Hussien Obama. In their eyes, our President will never be legitimate. Any sane politician with an ounce of class would immediately denounce birther questions from tea party cranks. But not Walberg. He suggested that Congress should impeach Obama to force him to produce a birth certificate that the President has already made public. And short of impeachment, the deranged Republican candidate offered up a bizarre scenario, wherein Obama would show his birth certificate to right-wing hate talker Rush Limbaugh and a Supreme Court justice. No, this is not an Onion story.
As Think Progress reported, Walberg had previously said he doesn’t “know” whether President Obama is a secret Muslim or if he was born in this country.
“You know, I don’t know, I really don’t know,” said Walberg.
When answering a birther question from an attendee at a town meeting, Walberg came up with his off the wall schemes to force that illegal alien socialist fellow in the White House to prove he’s a natural born citizen and not a Manchurian candidate from Kenya or Indonesia.
WALBERG: Well I’m going to take him at his word that he’s an American citizen. I don’t know why it’s not resolved, other than the fact that the president hasn’t resolved it yet. [...] If I had to do it I’d just simply of course I had to show my birth certificiate to be on the ballot. If I were gonna do it I’d call Rush Limbaugh, Alan Colmes, Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, and maybe one justice of the US Supreme court. Call ‘em all into a room and lay out my birth certificate on a table…and say all of you take a look at it show me what you find. Now go and report it. [...] The Executive has an awful lot of power to keep from showing certain things unless the courts will stand up to him. Or unless Congress in majority will stand up, up to and including impeachment. And Republicans don’t have that majority.
During the meeting with voters, Walberg also made the fantastical claim that the “almost $3 trillion” stimulus measure didn’t work. What would work? Tax cuts.
Of course, in the reality based world, the amount of the stimulus bill was $787 billion, not $3 trillion. And a good portion of the bill was made up of tax cuts.
