Beck Dismisses Evolution: ‘I Haven’t Seen A Half-Monkey, Half-Person Yet’
October 20, 2010
(ChattahBox Political News)— Charlatan and carnival huckster Fox News’ Glenn Beck has a devoted audience of dupes eager for their daily fix of pseudo-science, conspiracy theories, race-baiting and violent eliminationist rhetoric. During his radio show this morning, Beck mocked the science of evolution, which is prevalent among evangelicals whom believe that the Earth is only 6,000 years old and Jesus Christ romped with dinosaurs. But Beck as usual, took stupid to a whole new level. Beck asked his audience, “Have you ever seen a half-monkey, half-person?” Like extremist teapartier Christine O’Donnell, Beck dismisses evolution as a myth because he can’t see it happening while he watches.
Beck started off his idiotic remarks by wondering how many Americans believed in the “ridiculous” theory of evolution.
“I don’t think we came from monkeys. I think that’s ridiculous. I haven’t seen a half-monkey, half-person yet.” [...]
“Did evolution just stop?… There’s no other species that is developing into half human…”
Beck then compared the “myth” of human evolution to the “myth” of global warming.
“Again, It’s like global warming…”
“If I get to the other side and God’s like, ‘You know what, yep, you were a monkey once,’ I’ll be shocked, but I’ll be cool with it,” he said.
Because so many fundamentalist Christians reject the science of evolution, Beck reasons that proves it’s suspect.
“They have to make you care,” Beck continued. “They have to force it down your throat. When anybody has to force it — it’s a problem. You didn’t have to force that the world was round. Truth is truth.”
Beck has previously attacked Charles Darwin as the “father” of modern racism.
It’s one thing, if a group of radical Christians reject science to exist in a reality of their own making. But for the wacky notion to begin to take root as a commonly held belief, is truly depressing.
How can America ever hope to compete in an increasingly competitive global economy, when large segments of the population promote ignorance?
