Mother Charged With Murder After Four Infants’ Bodies Found in Apartment
October 26, 2010
(ChattahBox U.S. News) – On July 29, a teenager contacted authorities to report finding something suspicious in her living room closet, and what investigators discovered was chilling. The Reading, PA apartment housed the remains of four infants stored in separate plastic containers, and investigators charged Michele Kalina, the mother of the teenager and the deceased infants, with criminal homicide, CNN reports.Although Kalina, a nurse’s aide, was arrested in August, she wasn’t charged with homicide until yesterday, when forensic tests revealed that she was the mother of the four babies. Kalina was also positively matched via DNA to a fifth set of infant remains found in a landfill near her home.
Kalina’s boyfriend was genetically linked to three of the bodies, but neither he nor Kalina’s husband was aware that she had been pregnant, CNN noted. Investigators are waiting for forensic pathology reports to determine any additional charges that Kalina may face.
