American Citizen Accused of Planning DC Bomb Plots

October 28, 2010

(ChattahBox U.S. News) — While allegedly helping to mastermind a large-scale train-bombing plot, 34-year-old Farooque Ahmed shared video footage that he took of Virginia train stations, and offered to donate $10,000 to al-Qaeda. Fortunately, the “al-Qaeda” operatives that he met with were actually with the U.S. government and were merely posing as terrorists, reports the U.K. Telegraph. In recent months, FBI agents were constantly monitoring Ahmed, who was born in Pakistan but is a U.S. citizen who has been living in Ashburn, VA, and he was not considered a danger to the public. He met multiple times with someone who he thought was part of al-Qaeda but who was actually with the federal government, and provided the contact with videos and drawings of northern Virginia Metro stations allegedly targeted in the planned attack. Ahmed also offered to collect donations for the terrorist group without raising red flags, the Telegraph reports.

Ahmed faces the possibility of 50 years in prison. During his court appearance yesterday, he did not enter a plea and told the judge he could not afford a lawyer, the Telegraph said.
