Democrats Losses Will Be Of Their Own Doing, but Not Why You Think
October 30, 2010
(ChattahBox Op/Ed) – After what I am about to share with you, I hope that you’ll see that what you don’t know is hurting you, and it’s hurting mostly Democrats, and the worst part for me, being a Democrat, is that it is our own fault.
Although this may seem like breaking news, it’s not. Let me share some remarkable facts:
□ Since President Obama took office, he has cut taxes by more than $240 billion dollars, and the vast majority of those tax cuts have been to the benefit of the middle class.
□ Obama policies have effective cut taxes for 95% of the country.
□ Specific programs that have benefitted all Americans have included breaks for college education, the unemployed, and for renewable energy.
□ TARP, the program that saved banks have produced a remarkable return on our taxpayer investment of more than $28 billion and the money is projected to be paid back in full with more revenue being generated as we go.
□ The economy has seen growth in the last five quarters shoring up expectations that a recovery is actually here and is sustaining itself.
This is all great news, but you don’t know it. According to a recent poll by Salzer & Company, a Des Moines, IA based firm that conducted the poll for Bloomberg News, the majority of Americans don’t believe the facts, and that is the fault of the Democrats.
In this poll, 52% of mostly middle class Americans believe that taxes have been increased under Obama, obviously that is not true. 60% believe that the TARP money is lost and will never be recovered, which is NOT true. Even though there has been growth in the economy as the numbers quoted prove, a remarkable 61% believe the economy is shrinking and 69% of people 65 and older are even less optimistic about the economy.
So what gives? We have clear numbers that prove the economy has been helped by Obama policies. We have indisputable proof that the criticism that was at the center of decisions of the Stimulus Package are exactly what we needed to get the economy moving again, and you don’t believe it.
I have to blame Democrats. They are responsible for their own message and they have failed in that department. While we have seen growth and everything from bailing out the auto industry and banks, to incentives for real estate purchases, everything Obama has touched has had the Midas touch on the economy but you scantly know it or don’t believe it.
Another point to be highlighted here is the good news I have provided is what the Republicans are using as ammunition to take back control of the House and maybe the Senate and beyond the ludicrous notion that this could ever happen, it is happening in all too real ways. Unbelievable.
Maybe it’s Obama’s fault for not being a greater braggart. Maybe it’s the Democratic leadership’s fault for not pounding the message of success as the Republican’s certainly would. Maybe it’s the collective ignorance of the American people, who can’t see the forest for the trees, and maybe it’s all of the above, but I have another theory as well.
Unemployment is still way too high and pain is still being felt for the eight years of Bush policies and the hangover from those years haven’t had time to pass yet. As it turns out, it won’t matter because in a few days, if we are to believe what the polls are telling us, the very people who voted for the policies that are moving our country forward will be voted out of office for not doing the job they actually did, which I have just proved.
Only in politics!
Republican’s are promising great change once they have control, but is change what we really need? It seems to me that the change we voted for in 2008 is working beautifully. Although we are not yet putting enough people back to work and we are not seeing the kind of movement in the real estate market that will be a much clearer indication the economy is rebounding at a heartier pace, but we are seeing positive movement and all arrows are pointing up. And we want to change this because why? Someone remind me?
Although we have created more debt, and I would be a fool not to recognize that, we are also creating opportunity that will assist in eliminating that same debt. It’s a responsible way to lead and govern, and you hardly know it.
So the Democrats can gripe all they want about Republicans, and they and I will, but they have to own some of this problem themselves. Maybe it’s time to find a new messenger because that is one thing that is not working for Obama. Nancy Pelosi shares a greater responsibility here then most, as does Harry Reid, and they both may pay for that come Tuesday, but as a country we should be careful for what we wish for because we may just get it and that could be dangerous to the economic path we are on right now.
Let the voter beware.
