Lunch-mode interception is ideal for yet one more reason: The highly-toxic and dangerously radioactive warhead material would be scattered over the launch site, rather than somewhere further down the intended flight path of the attacker’s missiles. That would tend to discourage the use of launch sites within a rogue State’s own borders (not to mention making it a very expensive operation in terms of personnel loss; it’s very costly to train missile launch crews, and if the launch crew is disabled or killed along with the missile, they won’t be doing *that* again).
