New House Oversight Committee Chair Issa to Investigate Both Bush and Obama
November 4, 2010
(ChattahBox U.S. News) – As chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) has the authority to subpoena records from both current and former presidents — and that’s exactly what he plans to do, Politico reports.
“I’m going to be investigating a president of my own party, because many of the issues we’re working on began [with] President Bush or even before, and haven’t been solved,” Issa told MSNBC interviewers while serving as a guest on the show “The Daily Rundown.” For example, as Issa investigates the mortgage crisis, he intends to research records regarding the failures of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mac, which took place under George W. Bush’s presidency, Politico reports.
In addition to looking into mistakes made during the mortgage crisis, Issa also plans to get to the bottom of issues that took place at the Interior Department’s former Mineral Management Services, which was reorganized after reports of corruption surfaced, as well as failure in the Gulf, Politico notes.
