GOP Witch-Hunter Issa Now Says Obama Not ‘Personally Corrupt’
November 9, 2010
(ChattahBox Political News)—- Darrell Issa, Darrell Issa, Darrell Issa. Are you sick of hearing that name yet? Well, brace yourselves for at least two long years of hearing constantly from the media-seeking Republican Congressman, who is poised to hold hundreds of investigations (witch hunts) of the Obama administration, of which the likes we haven’t seen since the Clinton administration. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), is making every attempt to not sound insane with power, but since he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, he slips up about every other day. Case in point, during a recent appearance on hate-talker Rush Limbaugh’s radio program, Issa called President Obama “One of the most corrupt presidents in modern times.” Haha, no really. But on second thought, Issa slightly walked back his incendiary bomb-throwing rhetoric, conceding that the President may not be “personally corrupt,” but leaving open the idea that he is politically corrupt. Good to know.
Rep. Issa (R-CA), will soon the become the Chairman of the powerful House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, armed with subpoena power. And he plans “to do a lot of investigating” of the Obama administration, telling The Politico he plans to conduct hundreds of hearings of one of the almost “most corrupt presidents in modern times.”
“I want seven hearings a week, times 40 weeks,” Issa said.
Regarding his flame-throwing rhetoric directed towards President Obama, Issa told CNN he now regrets it, at least a little bit.
“Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) says he regrets calling Barack Obama “one of the most corrupt presidents in modern times.”’
‘“If I had to do it over again I’d have parsed my words a little more carefully,” Issa said in an interview Monday on CNN’s “Situation Room.” ‘[...]
‘“Do I think the president is personally corrupt, no,” Issa said. “I should never have implied that, or created that in a quick statement on a radio call-in.”’
Yes, well, as recent history shows, this is what Republicans do when they gain subpoena power in the House. They use their investigative powers to try to weaken and topple a Democratic presidency. And there is every indication, that’s exactly what Issa and his minions have in mind this go around.
Remember the endless witch hunts during the Clinton administration?
“In comparison to their oversight of the Clinton administration, Republicans have done little to hold the Bush administration accountable for its actions. For example, while taking just 12 hours of testimony on the abuse of prisoners at Abu Ghraib, the Republican-controlled House took 140 hours of testimony on Clinton’s Christmas card list. And while issuing over 1,000 subpoenas investigating Clinton and the Democratic Party, the Republican-led Government Reform committee issued just 11 subpoenas investigating Republicans.”
Put on your seat belts, because it’s going to get ugly.
