Tea Party Congressman Hires Bigoted Shock Jock as Top Aide (Video)
November 10, 2010
(ChattahBox Political News)—This is sure different. Imagine a newly elected U.S. Congressman hiring an incendiary talk radio host, such as Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh to work as chief of staff. That’s exactly what Congressman-elect Allen West (R-FL) did, in tapping controversial Florida shock jock Joyce Kaufman as his top Capitol Hill aide. Kaufman’s incendiary rhetoric is not only bigoted, but it’s also violent. She said voters should use “bullets” if casting their ballots for Republicans don’t provide the desired result. And she spews a regular diet of hate speech, specifically directed towards undocumented immigrants and Muslims. She once advocated “hanging” illegal immigrants who commit crimes, and Kaufman also claims immigrants cause pollution and bring diseases into the country. West endorses Kaufman’s extremist rhetoric, and he has appeared on her radio show over 100 times in the past two-years to participate in bigoted anti-Muslim and anti-immigration hate speech. West, no stranger to controversy himself, retired from the military to avoid facing a court martial for torturing and abusing an Iraqi policeman.
In typical bomb-throwing fashion, upon being appointed to serve as West’s chief of staff, Kaufman went on her radio program to call Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) “garbage.”
Think Progress has compiled a list some of Kaufman’s top hits of hate:
Discussing illegal immigrants on her show, she said: “If you commit a crime while you’re here, we should hang you and send your body back to where you came from, and your family should pay for it.”
At a rally with West standing by, she said: “Calling illegal immigrants ‘undocumented workers’ is like calling a drug dealer a pharmacist without a license.” “There are people who want to change your way of life, and some of them may be your gardeners,” she said.
She also blamed undocumented immigrants for pollution and disease: “We are destroying the environment in this country at an incredibly accelerated pace because of this group of people who have come to this country and have to live a very substandard existence. They don’t have mufflers on their cars. I mean, it sounds like silly nonsense, but it’s not. The cumulative effect is huge. They live, you know, 10 to a household; they bring disease with them.“
And Talking Points Memo reports on Kaufman’s endorsement of Sharron Angle-like Second Amendment remedies, but the Florida hate talker takes her bullets vs. ballots rhetoric a bit further, by suggesting she would help organize an armed insurrection against the federal government.
“When I say I’ll put my microphone down on November 2nd if we haven’t achieved substantial victory, I mean it. Because if at that point, I”m gonna go up into the hills of Kentucky, I’m gonna go out into the Midwest, I’m gonna go up in the Vermont and New Hampshire outreaches, and I’m gonna gather together men and women who understand that some things are worth fighting for — and some things are worth dying for.”‘
These new tea party lawmakers sure are living up to the extremist hype.
