When Comedy Meets Right-Wing’s TSA Freak-Out (Video)

(ChattahBox Political News)— Despite the threat of an airport security “opt-out” on one of the busiest travel days of the year, airline travel went smoothly for the Thanksgiving holiday. Most of the travelers walked through the full-body scanners when asked and the so-called enhanced “junk” pat-downs proceeded with a minimum of complaints. A few activists showed up at airports donned in bikinis or kilts, to make a point, but the fear of a travel nightmare resulting from a nationwide protest to TSA’s security measures was a bust. Meanwhile, a Japanese comedy show, following in the footsteps of Saturday Night Live’s TSA lampooning, had some fun at our expense, responding to the right-wing hysteria over airport security, with a skit mocking the random aspect of pat-downs. An overly eager airport screener is shown in the skit reserving his very intimate pat-downs for young attractive women.
The star of the Japanese comedy skit is the pervy airport security worker who aims his hand-held metal detector directly at the breasts and private areas of attractive female travelers.
His lecherousness comes to an abrupt halt however, when his supervisor finds him examining a young woman stripped down to her underwear, while wearing her skirt on his head.
All kidding aside, the right-wing led freak out over our airport security procedures, led to what must be a first– Republicans supporting civil rights and the ACLU. An army of GOP operatives screeched about an assault on our freedoms, while pushing for private security companies and racial profiling. Consistent they are not.
But of course, the second after a terrorist breaks through security to bring down a plane, the GOP will immediately blame President Obama and start screeching for our civil rights to be thrown out the window.
We certainly need to have a national consensus on what level of airport security we will tolerate, weighed against the potential risks, but this manufactured outrage ginned up by the right-wing is not helpful.
