Joe Scarborough: Palin’s Presidential Ambitions ‘Dopey Dream’
November 30, 2010
(ChattahBox Political News)— MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough slammed his fellow Republicans in Politico today for not having the courage to “man up” and admit in public that Sarah Palin is a joke and not a viable candidate for President of the United States. Scarborough, a former Republican congressman, derisively referred to Palin, as a “reality show star,” and a former third-place finishing “Miss Alaska beauty” contestant. But putting aside Palin’s obvious lack of qualifications, what really got Scarborough all hot under the collar was her swipes at the “great men,” former Republican presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. Notably, the Morning Joe co-host didn’t bother to mention Palin’s race-baiting and classless attacks against a sitting President and the First Lady as un-American. In fact while bashing Palin, Scarborough also found a way to get in a couple of jabs at President Obama, as well.
It’s certainly true that many Republicans are afraid of alienating the tea party base by criticizing the half-term governor publicly. Save for a handful of conservative pundits, most notably Peggy Noonan, Kathleen Parker and Fox News’ Karl Rove, Republicans contemplating a presidential run are being careful.
But Palin really raised the hackles of the Republican establishment by attacking the elder Bushes as “blue bloods” and belittling the conservative icon, the Gipper as a “Bedtime for Bonzo” actor.
Scarborough goes after Palin’s thin resume, with a back-handed jab at Obama referring to him as “a glorified state senator.”
“What man or mouse with a fully functioning human brain and a résumé as thin as Palin’s would flirt with a presidential run? It makes the political biography of Barack Obama look more like Winston Churchill’s, despite the fact that the 44th president breezed into the Oval Office as little more than a glorified state senator.”
Scarborough goes on to call Palin’s presidential ambitions a “dopey dream,” and he’s furious she has the “audacity” to take hits at “Republican giants.” He pointed out that George H. W. Bush was such a “pampered” aristocrat, he almost lost his life fighting in World War II. “On Sept. 2, 1944, “Blue Blood” Bush almost lost his life after being shot down by Japanese anti-aircraft fire, writes Scarborough.
Scarborough says Palin’s beauty contestant experience comes up short compared to a war hero.
“I suppose Palin’s harsh dismissal of this great man is more understandable after one reads her biography and realizes that, like Bush, she accomplished a great deal in her early 20s. Who wouldn’t agree that finishing third in the Miss Alaska beauty contest is every bit as treacherous as risking your life in military combat? Maybe the beauty contestant who would one day be a reality star and former governor didn’t win the Distinguished Flying Cross, but the half-termer was selected as Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants.”
Ouch and double ouch! But after all of his ranting, he decided that Palin was not stupid, but naive and inexperienced–just like–yes you guessed it– President Obama. That’s right, the conspicuously unintelligent, divisive and vapid Sarah Palin is just like President Obama.
“Palin is not a stupid woman. But like the current president, she still does not know what she does not know. And she does know how to make millions of dollars, even if she embarrasses herself while doing it.”
President Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was president of the Harvard Law Review. He worked as a community organizer before entering law school. He then worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for over a decade. Obama served three terms in the Illinois Senate and he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004. Barack Obama, then went on to become the first black President of the United States in 2008, winning in a landslide victory.
Sarah Palin was mayor of a small town in Alaska, a position she left amid controversy. She was elected governor of Alaska, became a losing, polarizing vice presidential candidate and then later quit office mid-term to cash in on her fame. As for her education, Palin obtained an undergraduate degree in communications after attending six different colleges.
It’s no secret that Scarborough is no fan of President Obama. That’s fine. But he loses credibility when he rails against Sarah Palin for taking cheap shots at former presidents, while he takes a couple of cheap shots himself at a sitting president.
