‘Grim Sleeper’ Murderer Could Be Responsible for Many More Killings
December 17, 2010
(ChattahBox U.S. News)—Lonnie Franklin Jr., who is accused of being the “Grim Sleeper” serial killer, took thousands of photographs and videos of women over a 30-year span, but police have been unable to locate the women in the pictures, leading investigators to wonder whether they may have been additional victims of the accused killer, the UK Telegraph reports.
Franklin is being held in a California jail following charges of murdering 10 women over a 22-year period, and has pled not guilty to the accusations. The victims were all young black women who were either strangled or shot with a .25 caliber pistol, and all were found near downtown L.A., often in garbage bins or alleys, the Telegraph notes.
Franklin, 58, is a former mechanic and trash collector who was arrested after police discovered that his DNA matched that of the “Grim Sleeper” killer. Police chose the “Grim Sleeper” moniker because there was a 14-year gap between murders, although authorities now wonder if the killer did commit more killings during that period which just haven’t been discovered yet, the Telegraph reports.
