Security Camera Footage Shows Giffords Being Shot Just Above the Eyebrow
January 19, 2011
(ChattahBox U.S. News)—Tuscon police have released video surveillance footage from the scene where Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot, which shows that the gunman hurried into the store, stood just two to three feet away from Giffords, and fired a bullet above her eye, the New York Times reports. The shooter then turned away and began shooting randomly at people sitting along the wall.
The tapes also reveal that Judge John Roll actually put his body between the shooter and Ronald Barber, a Giffords staffer who had been shot twice, the Times notes. Roll is shown in the video attempting to move Barber away from the gunman and shielding him. Roll later died in the attack. Barber has been released from the hospital and Giffords remains in serious condition.
Meanwhile, Giffords’ husband Mark Kelly told Diane Sawyer that his wife had feared being shot during a town meeting, Huffington Post reports. He also shared that while holding his hand, Giffords plays with his wedding ring, a sign that he believes means she recognizes him.
