New Video by Former ‘First Daughter’ Barbara Bush Supports Gay Marriage

February 1, 2011

(ChattahBox U.S. News)—Breaking from the opposition to legalizing same-sex marriage that her father noted during his presidency, George W. Bush’s daughter Barbara appears in a new web video to throw her support behind gay marriage, Politico.com reports. “I’m a New Yorker for marriage equality,” the 29-year-old says in the video. “Everyone should have the right to marry the person that they love,” she adds.

Bush, who is the president of a public health non-profit and lives in Manhattan, joins a growing list of gay marriage supporters. Her mother Laura Bush said last year she accepts same-sex marriage, and John McCain’s (R-AZ) daughter Meghan and wife Cindy have also indicated they support marriage equality, as has former Vice President Dick Cheney, politico.com notes.

Bush’s video is part of the Human Rights Campaign’s New Yorkers for Marriage Equality project, politico.com reports. Other prominent New Yorkers who have appeared in the project’s videos include Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
