Ohio’s Tea Party Gov. Wages War on ‘Idiot’ State Trooper
February 17, 2011
(ChattahBox Political News)–Ohioans voted in a real Fox News approved tea party governor in November, and now they are paying the price. In the short time since taking office, Ohio Gov. John Kasich has managed to alienate just about everyone in the state with his callousness and incompetence, including the LGBT community, blacks and public employees. Now the former Fox News contributor is taking aim at an Ohio State Trooper for having the nerve to issue him a traffic citation three-years ago for not yielding to an emergency vehicle. In Kasich’s warped tea party reality, a law enforcement official doing his job is an “idiot,” for not treating “the client with respect.” As you can well imagine, the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police didn’t appreciate Kasich’s demonizing of state troopers, especially when he, like other Republican governors across the country, are waging war against public employees’ collective bargaining rights.
Kasich made his remarks during a speech last month before Ohio EPA workers. He told his woeful tale of receiving a traffic citation, as an example of what he says is a pattern of disrespect shown by government workers. During his remarks, Kasich called the state trooper in question an “idiot” three times.
Apparently, the state trooper, to show proper respect, should have allowed Kasich to break the law and say,” Sorry Mr. Kasich, I didn’t know you were an extremist right-wing teapartier. You may refuse to yield to emergency vehicles all you want. Have a nice day now.”
“Have you ever been stopped by a police officer that’s an idiot,” Kasich asked the seated audience, pausing his speech as he moved around the room. “I had this idiot pull me over on 315. Listen to this story. He says to me, he say, uh, he says you passed this emergency vehicle on the side of the road and you didn’t yield.”
“I said, officer I, are you kidding, I didn’t, I didn’t see any, I didn’t even see any, where the heck was it?” a stammering Kasich recalls. “The last thing I would ever do would be to pass an emergency, are you kidding me?” [...]
“Then Kasich stills himself and bellows, “He’s an idiot! We just can’t act that way. What people resent are people who are in the government who don’t treat the client with respect.”‘
Kasich at first, refused to apologize to the State Trooper who ticketed him. After taking considerable heat and receiving negative press, for his attack on law enforcement, Kasich finally agreed to phone the State Trooper to apologize. But, to little, to late. The State Trooper is now demanding an in-person apology.
Ohio Fraternal Order of Police president Jay McDonald slammed Kasich for well, being a no-nothing idiot.
“Police officers in Ohio already do difficult and dangerous work, so it doesn’t help when the governor calls an officer doing his job and protecting the public an ‘idiot,’ ” said McDonald.
