Addled Alan Simpson: ‘The Enema Man and Snoopy Snoopy Poop Dogg’”
March 8, 2011
(ChattahBox Political News)— Some elderly people wholly ignorant of pop culture manage to come off as benignly quirky and adorable. Not so with Alan Simpson, the former Republican Senator from Wyoming. Tapped by President Obama as a co-chairmen of the now-disbanded Commission on Fiscal Reform, otherwise known as the “cat food commission,” Simpson is back muttering insane things about the “lesser people” on Social Security. This time he appeared on Fox News, warning greedy Social Security recipients to think of their ungrateful grandchildren listening to “Enema man and Snoopy Snoopy Poop Dogg.” Isn’t he just adorable? Uh, no.
Simpson has a long and atrocious history of demonizing entitlement programs and the people dependant on them. He once referred to Social Security recipients as “lesser people,” and to the program itself as “a milk cow with 310 million tits!” Why President Obama saw fit to drag this guy out of retirement to head up the White House’s deficit commission, is a mystery. But now he just won’t go away.
Simpson made his latest colorful remarks during an appearance on Fox News’ Your World with Neil Cavuto. While chastising current Social Security recipients as selfish, for not readily embracing the prospect of more cat food casserole dinners, Simpson urged seniors to leave a little something for their weird grandkids.
“This is a fakery,” Simpson said. “If they care at all about their children or grandchildren, and sometimes I doubt that – I think, you know, grandchildren now don’t write a thank-you for the Christmas presents, they’re walking on their pants with the cap on backwards listening to the enema man and Snoopy Snoopy Poop Dogg, and they don’t like them!”
Fellow former cat food commission co-chair Erskine Bowles was also on hand.
But a number of Republican lawmakers and a handful of moderate Democrats just won’t let the thing die. Simpson and Bowles are scheduled to present their unofficial final report before the Senate Budget Committee today. The two then plan a roll out of their newly-created Moment of Truth Project, to further promote their failed ideas.
Really, why is Alan Simpson, a man who has spent his entire political career demonizing Social Security, a program that does not contribute one penny to the deficit, considered an expert on deficit reduction?
