Gingrich Explains His Serial Adultery: Patriotism Made Me Do It
March 9, 2011
(ChattahBox Political News)—Disgraced former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R) and serial adulterer-cum-moral authority on traditional marriage, is truly an evil genius. He has come up with a perfectly plausible explanation for his sleazy personal history, as he weighs a presidential run. What is it? Patriotism. Now, what God-fearing salt of the earth Republican could argue with that? Newt says it’s hard work loving America as much as he does, and the stress just drove him to cheating on his first two wives. Wife number three better watch out. Running for president requires lots of America loving. And you know what that means.
Gingrich, who is seeking the support of the evangelical Christian Right, just doesn’t have a simple one-time infidelity problem. He has contempt for the institution of marriage itself. Gingrich cheated on his first wife, and demanded a divorce while she was in the hospital being treated for cancer. Wife number two suffered the same fate. Newt cheated on her, and when she was ill, he dumped her. In both cases, he had already asked his mistresses to marry him before divorcing.
Wife number three is much younger, and a former congressional aide. He was messing around with her, while he sanctimoniously campaigned for Bill Clinton’s impeachment.
So, you see Gingrich has a real credibility problem here with the Christian Right crowd.
But never mind, problem solved. Gingrich appeared on the Christian Broadcast Network’s Brody File and dealt with his serial adultery head on, while also seeking redemption for his sins.
GINGRICH: “There’s no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate. And what I can tell you is that when I did things that were wrong, I wasn’t trapped in situation ethics, I was doing things that were wrong, and yet, I was doing them. I found that I felt compelled to seek God’s forgiveness. Not God’s understanding, but God’s forgiveness. I do believe in a forgiving God. And I think most people, deep down in their hearts hope there’s a forgiving God. …
Keep digging Newt.
