Trump’s Foreign Policy Experience: ‘I Screwed’ Gaddafi (Video)
March 21, 2011
(ChattahBox Political News)–Donald Trump’s pretend interest in running for president has officially veered from the ridiculous to the absurd. The blowhard New York real estate mogul and reality TV star bragged last week about being “very rich” and a “really smart guy,” while he joined the ranks of crazy birthers doubting the legitimacy of President Obama. This week he decided to wow us with his foreign policy expertise, which he says consists of selling real estate to international leaders “for tremendous amounts of money” and cheating Libyan strongman Col. Muammar Gaddafi in a land deal in New York. Trump intoned that screwing people over “should be the thinking of this country.” You can either laugh or cry.
You have to wonder if Trump’s embarrassing media appearances of late, are not some sort of elaborate street theater.
Trump made his latest remarks, during an appearance on Fox & Friends this morning, via telephone.
The Fox & Friends crew challenged Trump to responded to criticism that he has no foreign policy experience to bring to the table, should he run for president. According to Trump, he has “more experience than anybody.”
TRUMP: I’ve been interacting with leaders of countries and leaders of business all over the world for all of my life. I think you guys probably know that better than anybody. I think I probably have more experience than anybody, whether I sell them real estate for tremendous amounts of money, I mean I’ve dealt with everybody. And by the way I could tell you something else — I dealt with Gaddafi. What’d I do with Gaddafi? I rented him a piece of land, he paid me more for one night than the land was worth for the whole year, two years, and then I didn’t let him use the land! That’s what we should be doing. I don’t want to use the word ‘screwed,’ but I screwed him!
Think Progress points out that in the reality based world, Trump didn’t even know at first that he rented the land in question to Gaddafi. And he urged Gaddafi not to use the property, only after receiving pressure from the local community and Congressional lawmakers.
But in Trump’s telling, he “screwed” Gaddafi because he felt like it, and that’s how our country should interact with foreign leaders.
Uh, huh, if you say so Donald.
