GOP Rep Broun: FDR’s New Deal Came Straight From Stalin’s ‘Communist Russia’ (Video)
April 14, 2011
(ChattahBox Political News)—Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), is so consumed with deranged far right-wing conspiracy theories and anti-government paranoia, that it’s shocking he has not been dragged away from the House floor by now, to a nice quiet mental institution. But Broun’s constant fearmongering, such as rants about President Obama’s plans to create a Gestapo-like security force “exactly” like “Hitler did in Nazi Germany,” and using the swine flu epidemic “as an excuse to declare martial law,” has become the new normal for the Republican Party that has been taken taken over by hate, and the tea party Bircher fringe. What is Broun’s latest insane rant? He said that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt based his New Deal reforms on Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin’s policies in “Communist Russia.” Yes, it’s ridiculous, but Broun and others like him, truly believe our social safety net of Medicare and Social Security makes us all commies. And the GOP’s fundamental rejection of FDR’s New Deal reforms, is what divides Republicans and Democrats. This stark philosophical difference is at the heart of our current budget battle over Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) draconian plan, supported by the GOP, to end Medicare as we know it, and transfer most of the wealth in this country to the wealthiest one percent of Americans. Last night, President Obama fought back against Broun and Ryan’s cruel and small-minded vision of America, setting the stage for a battle for the heart and soul of America. And make no mistake, it’s going to be an all-out war. Ryan may couch his zealotry in the language of neo-intellectualism, but he’s just as extreme as Broun.
Broun made his state’s rights anti-welfare state remarks on the House floor Tuesday night.
BROUN: Original intent was the general welfare, the general welfare of the nation, not welfare of individuals. We’ve developed this big welfare system in this country. It all started, in earnest, with President Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt just exploded the size and scope of the government with his New Deal. Both progressives. Both had socialist beliefs. In fact, Franklin Delano Roosevelt sent his advisors, his close friends, his cabinet people to go visit with Stalin in communist Russia to study what he was doing, what Stalin was doing there so that FDR could replicate it here in the United States. And he did everything he possibly could to do so.
