White House to Release Dead Bin Laden Photo
May 3, 2011
(ChattahBox Political News)—A gruesome photo of the corpse of 9/11 terrorist Osama bin Laden may be released to the public as early as today. Calls for photographic evidence of bin Laden’s death have come from Congressional members, the Taliban, the families of 9/11 victims. And from right-wing conspiracy theorists peddling a variety of tin-foil hat scenarios questioning whether bin Laden is really dead. Shot above his left eye and again in his chest by Navy Seals conducting the “gutsy” operation, part of bin Laden’s skull was reportedly blown off.
ABC’s Jake Tapper, citing a “top source,” reported today that White House officials are having discussions to decide, when and how to release bin Laden’s death photo.
“The photograph, according to sources who have seen it, is bloody and gruesome, with a bullet wound to his head above his left eye. There are concerns its release could be inflammatory, though officials also say it’s important to put to rest any skepticism about the death of this nation’s public enemy number one, writes Tapper.
Tapper’s report was bolstered by remarks made by White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan during an appearance on “Good Morning America.”
Brennan said any public release of a photo of the corpse of Osama bin Laden would be done in a very careful manner.
“Any types of material related to the raid, we need to make sure that we make the right decisions. What we don’t want to do is to compromise potential future operations by releasing certain things, so we’re looking at all of this and making the right decisions,” Brennan said.
Eventually, even videos made of the nighttime raid on bin Laden’s Pakistani compound may be released by the White House.
President Obama is scheduled to visit Ground Zero on Thursday to meet with the families of the 9/11 victims.
