Russia Launches Second European Navigation Satellite For ESA

Moscow (ChattahBox) – Russia launched the second European navigation satellite for the navigational system Galileo on Sunday. The satellite, which will be run by the European Space Agency, will be part of a new space-based navigational system.
Galileo GIOVE-B was launched on Sunday in Kazakhstan on the back the Soyuz-FG rocket.
The launch took place at 4:16 a.m. local time.
The European Space Agency is set to take over full controls of the satellite once it makes its way into orbit safely.
The plan is to get the Galileo global positioning system (GPS) in place and functional by 2013. Galileo will become the third spaced-based navigational system after the U.S. and Russian systems, once it is completed in 2013 with 30 satellites in orbit.
The first European navigation satellite to launch as part of Galileo was in 2005 with the GIOVE-A.
The ESA has already come out stated that this mission has been nothing but a success thus far.
