President Bush Says He Will Not Boycott Beijing Olympics
July 6, 2008
Boston (ChattahBox) - U.S. President George Bush has stated that he will not boycott the Beijing Olympics.
There has been a great deal of pressure on the U.S. and other nations by human rights groups, as many want nations to boycott the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics.
This does not seem to be happening though, as Bush attended the Group of Eight summit in Japan on Sunday, stating that he would not boycott the opening ceremonies of the Olympics.
Bush and Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held a joint news conference on Sunday, making the announcement.
Fukuda also stated he would attend the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics.
This is despite the fact that other world leaders, such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, stated they would boycott.
