Listeria Outbreak Update, Lucerne Foods Issues Recall
August 28, 2008
Ontario (ChattahBox) - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Lucerne Foods has issued a recall that is linked to the listeria outbreak in Canada.
The recall is voluntary and has been issued by Lucerne Foods. It involves Safeway brand, and TakeAwayCafe brand sandwiches.
The belief is that these sandwiches may contain deli meats which came from Maple Leaf Foods Inc.
These deli meats could have been included in the recall by the company, who has been linked to the listeria outbreak.
28 different products from Safeway brand Gold Standard sandwiches, and TakeAwayCafe brand Mac’s sandwiches are included in the recall.
Listeria can lead to the diagnosis of listeriosis, a foodborne illness. Thus far, 15 deaths have already been reported in Canada.
