International Community Pressures Pakistan to Cooperate
December 2, 2008
Mumbai (ChattahBox) — The international community including the US is pressuring Islamabad to cooperate in the investigations related to terrorist attacks on Mumbai. The Bush administration is pushing for Pakistan’s sincere cooperation in the matter and has stated that there should be a complete transparency from both the sides.
Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice is reaching India shortly and has cut short her visits to Spain and Germany. Her comments urged the Pakistan’s government on Behalf of the administration to “follow the evidence wherever it leads.” These comments came in as Indian officials demanded that Pakistan take “strong action” against those involved in the terrorist attacks.
A team of US and the British experts has already reached Mumbai to investigate the terror carnage with seven members from the FBI and a team from Scotland Yard already in the city. The foreign investigators have arrived amidst rising frustrations amongst Indian countrymen that their government has failed to combat the situation and the rise of terrorism in the country.
The team from the US will also investigate the death of its citizen in the attacks while the British team shall try to discover if the terrorists had any links to their country. The US and the European diplomats are also trying to quell the war of words between Pakistan and India, which may ultimately lead to an explosive situation between the two nuclear power countries. The diplomats are encouraging both nations to have a joint investigative agency.
