Syria Increases Chemical Weapons Production

February 19, 2009

Syria (ChattahBox) – According to the London-based security agency, Jane’s, Syria has begun increasing their chemical weapons production, a move that is sparking fears about a backlash in neighboring Israel.

The news comes from images that were uploaded from satellites, which showed increased production in Damascus.

“The satellite imagery that Jane’s has examined suggests that Damascus has sought to expand and develop the Al Safir plant, and its chemical weapons arsenal,” the editor with the company’s Intelligence Review explained.

“Further expansion of Al Safir is likely to antagonize Israel and highlight mutual mistrust, even as peace talks between the two neighbors progress intermittently.”

Jane’s says that this does not mean that they are preparing for any kind of offensive attack, but nevertheless, it could be construed as an aggressive message to Israel.
