I don’t think the situation will change much until Somalia has a stable government. Until then we will continue to see attacks on ships. I offer a little more on this on my blog at: http://www.ricoexplainsitall.com/politcs-economy/2009/4/11/somali-pirates-hold-us-captain-hostage.html
The situation will change drastically when the UN authorizes the various national navies to shoot on sight anyone in the general area not flying naval colors, and carrying automatic weapons. In the meantime, Osprey and helicopter patrols should be guiding fast attack ships to small boats and suspected pirate motherships for boarding and inspection.
It is quite ironic that in today’s society Priates are “voodoo” when the United States have been using Pirates since BEFORE World War One.
Dont get me wrong, the Somolian Pirates are extremely wrong in over taking so many ship and keeping hundreds of people hostage. They need to be put out of business, the crew of the ships that have to be in the surrounding waters should be armed with weapons, the do need to be able to protect themselves, considering any other help is so far away.
But people NEED to do some basic research and see the TRUE history of the United States and priates.
