Lugo Refuses To Step Down Amidst Priest-Affair Claims

April 27, 2009

Paraguay (ChattahBox) – President Fernando Lugo has refused to resign after three women came forward with claims that he was the father of their children, after affairs he took part in during his time as a Catholic Priest.

The three boys, aged 6-years-old, 2-years-old, and 14-months-old, would have all been conceived prior to the Pope releasing Lugo from his vow of chastity, which was only done last summer. Lugo refuses all but the 2-year-old son.

“I don’t hesitate to ask for forgiveness in recognising that I failed the church, the country, the citizens, those who put their trust in me,” he said in a recent statement.

While the opposition is calling for his resignation, President Lugo has said that he will continue in his post until 2013, no matter what.
