North Korea Defies International Warnings with Another Nuclear Test

May 25, 2009

(ChattahBox) — North Korea conducted an underground nuclear test on Monday, and prompting calls for global response as UN Security Council members called for an emergency meeting. Its official KCNA news agency said, North Korea “successfully conducted one more underground nuclear test on May 25 as part of the measures to bolster up its nuclear deterrent for self-defense in every way.”

The country’s first test in October 2006 was considered to have been relatively weak, about 1 kiloton, while this latest test had a force of about 10 to 20 kilotons according to Russian sources. Early morning wire stories report that the North also fired three short-range missiles later in the day.

Analysts continue to say North Korea continues to do these tests to seek negotiations with the United States. The UN must come together in my opinion and completely isolate and completely starve out this renegade nation in response to their belligerence, if Kim Jong Il refuses meaningful negotiations. Japan and South Korea, Russia, and the United States have all come out and condemned this latest test and the U.N. Security Council will hold an emergency meeting later on Monday. However if China once again drags it’s feet and resists action as per usual all the drum beating will be of no avail and North Korea will continue to thumb it’s nose to the world.

China ought to recognize that South Korea is only the nation in the most danger from a nuclear-armed North Korea; China is the second.
