Obama Lands In Saudi Arabia To Begin Islamic Engagement Tour

June 3, 2009

Saudi Arabia (ChattahBox) – President Barack Obama has landed in Saudi Arabia, where he is set to begin his Middle East tour aimed at creating ties and understanding between the United States and the Arab world.

Obama has been vocal about his intentions to open up the lines of communication with the Palestinian world since his run for president last year, and has since proven that he meant what he said about allowing everyone a seat at the table in the name of diplomacy.

This trip will specifically target Saudi Arabia and Egypt, ending in a keynote speech in Cairo. He has also said that he will discuss oil prices while in Riyadh.

“There are very real policy issues that have to be worked through that are difficult. Ultimately, it’s going to be action and not words that determine the path, the progress from here on out,” Obama told the BBC this morning.

It is hoped that this will be the first step in both strengthening damaged US/Palestinian relations, and also working out a solution for a tentative peace between Israel and the wider Arab world.
