Election Results In Lebanon Point To Coalition Win Over Hezbollah

June 8, 2009

Lebanon (ChattahBox) – The New York Times has reported that the US-backed coalition, March 14, has been named the tentative winners of the election that will determine who will hold major influence in the region.

The preliminary results show the Sunni-Christian-Druze alliance, the March 14 Coalition, which has been backed heavily by the USA, has made a surprise win after analysts believed Hezbollah would take the majority of seats.

Despite this win Hezbollah is still set to be considered a major political faction in the Middle East, though the policies that the nation will follow by will be dictated by the willing coalition.

The election brought in a reported 55% turn out of registered voters in Lebanon, an incredible percentage that shows the importance of this election, for the future of no just Lebanon, but the whole of the Middle East.
