Election was a false hope for Iranians and the West

June 14, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Delusional President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran on Sunday declared his re-election “real and free” and accused foreign media of launching a “psychological war” against his country. The western world and of course Israel are highly disappointed with his re-election but it is pretty clear this was not a popular vote but a selection despite the claim by the Interior Ministry that Ahmadinejad had won 62.6 percent of the vote, with Mir Hussein Moussavi, the top challenger, taking just under 34 percent.
Ahmadinejad is a tool and a puppet to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (photo left), who has the final say on all affairs of state anyway and declared his stooge the winner, calling the outcome “divine”.  More like intervention minus the divine part though. According to many reports inside Iran, Ahmadinejad didn’t even come in second place but more likely third in the election. It could be though that the divine Ayatollah made a strategic mistake in not calculating what happens when citizens are denied victory.

In the Iranian capital’s most serious unrest for 10 years, thousands of people who claimed the election had been rigged vented their fury in running battles with police.  Moussavi, a former prime minister who had hinted at reversing Ahmadinejad’s hard-line policies, was therefore appealing to the west, but may have been a false hope anyway given the Ayatollah’s control. Ali Khamenei was a key figure in the Islamic Revolution and has been calling the shots as Supreme Leader of Iran since 1989 and before that was president of Iran from 1981 to 1989.  Revolution brought him to power and it can only be through the will of the Iranian people he is removed for any kind of real change to happen.
