Fiance Of Murdered Tehran Woman Speaks Out

June 22, 2009

Iran (ChattahBox) – The fiance of Neda Agha-Soltan, the young woman who was targeted and shot during election protests in Tehran, has spoken to the BBC about her death.

According to Caspian Makan, it is believed that she was deliberately targeted by paramilitary groups after stepping out of a car during traffic caused by the protests.

“She was feeling very tired and very hot. She got out of the car for just for a few minutes,” Makan was quoted as telling the BBC in his heartbreaking interview.

“That’s when she was shot dead. Eyewitnesses and video footage of shooting clearly show that probably Basij paramilitaries in civilian clothing deliberately targeted her. Eyewitnesses said they clearly targeted her and she was shot in the chest.”

Makan also spoke about the fact that Iranian officials have refused to allow for a burial service for the fallen Neda, after the video footage, which can be viewed here (please note, this link may be disturbing for most viewers) sparked international outrage.

Bystanders are clearly seen attempting to help Neda. But she passed away rather quickly. The footage of her death has been posted all over YouTube, and shown by many media sources. Her murder shows the chaos that has been sparked by the recent Iranian elections, where Mahmoud Amademajad win has been disputed.
