Parents of Eight Year Old Found In Concrete Arrested In France

September 13, 2009

France (ChattahBox) – The parent’s of an eight year old girl with mild down syndrome, whose body was found in concrete after she went missing in August, have been arrested.

The parents of Marina Sabatier had originally told police that the young girl had disappeared from the father’s car as he ran into a McDonald’s to pick up food.

But after the poor girl’s body was found in a slab of concrete at the man’s work site, investigators began to suspect that he and his wife, Marina’s mother, may have killed her.

After their arrest, the two admitted that they had beaten and mistreated the disabled eight-year-old, but insisted that her death had been an accident, and completely natural.

According to their statements, they had gone into the basement to find her dead, without knowing what had killed her.

The two claim that they panicked, packing her into a freezer on their property, and telling authorities that she had been kidnapped. Then, the father dumped her body into wet concrete at the site where he was currently working as a builder.

This was in early August, and they have been keeping up the charade ever since.

But many are already refusing to believe their story. Details have emerged that show that several investigations were opened, and then dropped, in poor Marina’s case.

According to reports, she had frequently been beaten badly, showing bruises and cuts, and her school suspected she was not being fed, as she frequently ate the food off of other children’s plates.

Ire is now turning to France’s social services, which many have accused of not being vigilant in the protection of a child who was obviously being severely abused.

Officials have claimed that it was not lack of vigilance, but the fact that the family have moved five time in a two year period, that created the tragic oversight that may have led to a young girl being beaten to death by those sworn to protect her.

The two are being held on suspicion of murder, violence against a minor, and misusing the police. If convicted, they could each serve life sentences.

The couple’s other four children have been taken into protective custody.
