Bordeaux Claims Greatest Vintage Since The 1940’s

October 10, 2009

France (ChattahBox) – Representatives at the Bordeaux Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences have claimed that next year’s vintage will be the best since the 1940’s, due to the perfect weather in the region.

The claims have been recieved with skepticism by some wine drinkers who believe that they are simply building hype to stave off what has been a disappointing sales year, one that has continued from plummeting sales since 2005.

But many importers and experts have said that they agree, and that the lovely summer days, followed by warm and dry nights, made the final harvest ideal, especially once the rains began.

“Nature has been extremely generous, it is sumptuous,” Bordeaux director, Denis Dubourdieu, was quoted by The Telegraph.

“It’s difficult to find comparisons, you have to go back to the climatology of the 40s to find, perhaps, comparable conditions.”

It is believed that the alcohol content in next year’s vintage will reach 14%, significantly higher than many past years.
