Canadian Folk Singer Taylor Mitchell Killed by Coyotes While Out Hiking

October 29, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Singer-songwriter Taylor Mitchell, 19, was on a break from a concert tour in Cape Breton park, Nova Scotia, when tragedy struck. She was hiking alone on the Skyline trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park on Tuesday when she was attacked by two coyotes. Other hikers walking behind her heard her cries for help and called 911.  A ranger shot and wounded one of the animals.
She was airlifted to hospital in Halifax, listed in critical condition, but she succumbed to her injuries early this morning. Mitchell, 19, was considered a rising star of the folk music scene, having just earned a Canadian Folk Music Awards nomination.  She released her debut album, For Your Consideration, in March and began her first major tour a few weeks ago.
