Defiant Iran announces plans for 10 new nuclear plants

(ChattahBox) — In case you were wondering how Iran would respond, after endlessly patient International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) finally passing a resolution condemning the country for developing a uranium enrichment site in secret, here’s your answer. Iran’s has now announced plans to build 10 new uranium enrichment plants, on the scale of the industrial-size 50,000-centrifuge in the town of Natanz. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said they would start immediately on 5 of those plants and it would provide eventually Iran with enough enriched uranium to produce 20,000 megawatts of electricity within six years, by incorporating new, more efficient centrifuges that have yet to be employed by Iran.“If true, this would be yet another serious violation of Iran’s clear obligations under multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions and another example of Iran choosing to isolate itself,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement.

Iran has been expected to give a hardline response and Vice President Ali Akbar Salehi, who is also Iran’s nuclear chief, said the expansion was “a firm message” in response to the IAEA’s vote last Friday. The ball is now in the international communities hands and particularly the United States, Russia, China, Germany, Britain and France to bring down an unholy hell of crippling sanctions before the end of the year, that Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has previously called for. Will China and Russia finally act for the good of the international community or continue to use these rogue nations as chess pieces in the continued cold war with the west, is about to be answered.
