What do you mean we don’t have that right here? Haven’t you ever heard of California’s Proposition 8 and Maine’s Question 1? Prop 8, for the first time in the history of this country, a Constitutionally guaranteed right from a minority class of citizens!

We were NEVER intended to be a direct democracy. The founding fathers repeatedly warned against the tyranny of the majority usurping the rights of the minority!

Newtons Third Law of Motion:

Action and reaction are equal and opposite.
Why some people, though knowing Newtons 3rd law, unneccessarily voting for banning the Mirates on the mosque. This type of anti islamic refferundums will never ever help them to prevent the people converting to Islam. Certainly when 57% is in favour of banning, then Thanks to majority of 43% who voted against the ban on minarates. Its just the matter of 7% which is, in reality must be bothering Swiss Right wing Parties and the Swiss government.
Coming to the financial crises, thats an obvious thrash to the Swiss banks.
Any how the main cause of such ethenic problems is the increasing conversion of EU population to Islam which can not be controlled by such refferumdums.
A day will surely be coming that Islam will enter every house and hut.

I couldn’t agree more with the Swiss. Islam is intolerant and restricts freedom of religious expression in every country to a varying degree. Persecution of Christians is common in EVERY Muslim country, though the form and intensity may vary. And, this is the tolerant age of Islam. A mere 150 years ago, non-Muslims in Muslim countries paid higher taxes, were forced to wear special clothes, in short they were second-class citizens constantly in fear of life and limb. Unable to take a Muslim to court!!! I think the only way to “tame” the dragon of Islam is to give it a taste of its own medicine. Reciprocity must become the norm. If Saudis don’t allow Bibles, churches, etc. We should not allow them to bring in Kuran’s, build schools or mosques. When they stop using religion as a political and social-engineering tool, then maybe there can be freedom of religion for them. Not until!

By far the majority of Muslims in the world live in tolerant Islamic countries like Malaysia, India, and Indonesia.
The intolerant Islamic countries are those dictatorships propped up by the West – Saudi Arabia, Egypt etc.
So the Swiss have just given a kick in the teeth for over a billion secular Muslims worldwide whose feelings are now bound to be hurt –
There are only four Minarets in Switzerland catering for 400,000 Muslims (who are mostly European and Turkish) these type of Muslims are mostly secular, moderate and peace loving unlike the Middle Eastern Muslims.
Pass laws preventing Muslim crooks stashing away the billions looted from the poor in Switzerland – Pass laws preventing your Banks from profiting from money stolen from the destitute and impoverished.
Ye good and honest people of Switzerland pass laws banning your banks helping Tax evaders from every country in the world, including Great Britain.

Maybe the US & other nations should follow Swiss style direct democracy?

The Swiss just voted to ban minarets on mosques and this is a great exercise of their unique form of direct democracy regardless of your views on the subject. But my question is why do the Swiss get to overrule their politicians and parliament and here in the US, we don’t have that right?

Let’s bring Swiss style direct democracy to the United States so Americans can vote on the Wall Street bailouts, government health care, whether to audit or abolish the FED, or require Congress declare war before we invade another country. The Swiss would have done better to ban all ostentatious religious displays regardless of faith, whether it’s big crosses on church towers or minarets.
