Thailand seizes North Korean cargo plane carrying weapons to unknown destination

(ChattahBox) — Thai authorities have seized a cargo plane from North Korea carrying about tons of weapons, after landing at a Bangkok airport for refueling. Among the estimated 35 tons of weapons, were rocket-propelled grenades, shoulder-launched rockets and tubes that may be missile components, a Thai spokesman said. Five crew members, four from Kazakhstan and one from Belarus are being detained, but are claiming they had no idea they were transporting arms. The crew’s ultimate destination is unknown but Thai officials believe it was headed for an unnamed South Asian country. Local news reported that authorities were tipped off by American intelligence. Moving heavy weapons in or out of North Korea has been banned by the U.N. since the country tested missiles in May.
