Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi Assaulted

December 14, 2009

(ChattahBox) – A man with a history of mental illness threw a statuette of the Duomo at Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi at the end of a rally Sunday, while signing autographs in a square in Milan. Berlusconi was rushed to hospital covered in blood with a “small fracture” of the nose, two broken teeth, a bloodied lip, and bruises. Following the incident, the scandal-plagued Berlusconi was swiftly ushered into a car, but he quickly got out to show the crowd that he wasn’t badly injured. Commentators believe the incident could even raise political tensions further before they eventually simmered down. Berlusconi will be kept in overnight for observation and could need up to 15 days to recover. The attacker, Massimo Tartaglia, was immediately taken into police custody, but not before getting off a few autographs.
