Taliban Suicide Bomber Targets Volleyball Game in Pakistan Killing Dozens
January 1, 2010
(ChattahBox) — Proving once again terrorists have no conscience about killing innocent people they claim to be defending, a suicide bomber struck in northwest Pakistan at a crowded local volleyball game Friday. The blast happened during a game between two village teams, where many spectators had gathered and killed at least 85 people and injured more than a 120. A man drove a SUV packed with 300 kilograms of explosives onto the field. The attack occurred in the Bannu district in North West Frontier Province, an area plagued by Taliban rebels seeking to counter multiple military offensives. These militants are believed to be involved in cross-border raids against U.S-led foreign forces in neighboring Afghanistan. Authorities have blamed the attack on Islamist extremists, who’ve been trying to reinforce their power in the region.
