Mother Of Shot Teen Speaks Out Against Greek Police
January 22, 2010
The death of Alexandros Grigoropoulos caused several weeks of riots to break out leading to fires, injuries, and fears of anarchist groups that had spurred the fighting.
Now the boy’s mother, Tzina Tsalikian, has spoken to a Greek court about former police officer Epaminondas Korkoneas, who she says shot her son deliberately.
The case is based around forensic evidence which the prosecution says shows that Korkoneas aimed directly at Alexandros.
The former officer disputes this, saying that he fired a warning shot at a group of boys that were throwing things at his car, and the shot ricocheted, hitting the boy.
“I don’t accept liability for anyone’s death,” Korkoneas told the court.
