Hamas Claims Israel Assassination Of Military Figure
January 29, 2010
Mahmoud al-Mabhouh died on January 20 in Dubai, and while some sources claimed he died of natural causes, his brother, Fayek al-Mabhouh, said that his death was due to electrocution and strangulation.
Other sources from the Emirates News Agency have said that Interpol are treating the death as a homicide, and tracking a ‘criminal gang’, some of which had European passports.
But Hamas insists it was a hit taken by the Israeli government.
“We hold the enemy responsible for the assassination of Mahmoud Mabhouh,” Hamas said in an online press release.
“The enemy will not escape punishment.”
Al-Mabhouh is known as one of the members of a terror cell that kidnapped Sgt. Avi Sasportas and Cpl. Ilan Saadon in February and May of 1989.
Both were shot to death.
