Turkish Teenager Buried Alive In Honor Killing
February 5, 2010
Sources in the police department in the conservative region of Kahta say that Medine Memi was killed in an honor killing after her father and grandfather found out she had been speaking to males her age.
Both men have been arrested but not yet charged.
Medine had previously been to the police seeking help, claiming that she was being beaten, but was always returned.
She was one of ten children, all of the other nine of which are still in the home with their mother, who is reportedly “too distraught” to offer much help in the investigation.
Medine was reportedly buried alive after police found dirt in her throat and lungs, though she did not appear to have been drugged, and was only lightly bruised.
This is one of many honor killings to occur in the largely Kurdish area.
